PLC / HMI programming for Nitrogen Purge Air Package

The control system being located on the compressor skid is an essential part of the Nitrogen Generation plant. It consists of dual redundant CPU’s, a touch screen HMI panel, I/O modules and associated powers supplies and protection equipment housed within a single enclosure. The system had to interface with several other PLC systems on the plant via I/O and Modbus communications.

With sole responsibility for software development and associated documentation. Dual PLC CPU Redundancy Programming and configuration on Allen Bradley CompactLogix PLC controllers via DeviceNET autoswitching. Only one of the controllers manages the plant at any one time, this is known the PRIMARY controller. The backup controller (or SECONDARY) will automatically switch to Primary if the primary controller fails or is shut down. HMI programming was required so that the technicians could monitor and manage the skid package locally via a Paneview+6 1000 touchscreen. Including; data model historical data trends, historical alarm log, status screen, set-point adjustment screen and security login/log facility. On site commissioning in Kuwait was required together with personnel training so that local technicians were familiar with the full operation of the control system.
